- New Club Captain
- New Event available with skipper secured – the RORC Morgan Cup to Dartmouth
Sailing

Since the last newsletter CSORC has completed three JOG races, skippered by Simon Zavad and Dave Anderson. Reports for these are all on the website with tales of heroic deeds, dolphins and even a party.
Bruce Kavanagh will be skippering our first RORC race with Jeepster – the Morgan Cup to Dartmouth.
AGM
The Club held its Annual General Meeting on 28 April and elected its Club Officers for the coming year (draft AGM minutes available). Stuart Dawes succeeds Nick Bowles as Club Captain, Peter and Phil continue as Crew Bureau and Club Treasurer respectively, and Bill steps down as Club Secretary leaving a vacancy.
Nick and Bill aren’t going far: Nick is taking on the Yacht Husband role and Bill will be Yacht Secretary.
A New Club Captain
by Stuart Dawes
Hi all, I’m honoured to be your new Club Captain and excited to be taking on the role now as we’re back racing our own yacht. Civil Service sailing has given me some great experiences and opened the door to wider opportunities in the sport, so I’m keen that we continue that tradition on my watch as Club Captain with Jeepster.
I first got involved in yacht racing through an IDOR in 2012 and have taken part in a number since, including my first races as a skipper. I’ve also completed three Fastnet campaigns with CSORC between 2017 and 2021, and I ran IDOR from 2020 to 2025. That means I’ve already met many of you, and I’m looking forward to getting to know even more members — as well as welcoming new sailors into the club.
In recent years I’ve mainly been inshore racing in the Performance 40 series and IRC 1, where I’ve learnt a great deal. I aim to bring some of that experience into our programme and help offer a varied range of racing that gives plenty of opportunities for members of the club, new and old.
Committee help
Getting the most out of our club and yacht will take more effort than the current committee can provide, so we’re looking for some extra help. To help us stay organised we’re looking for someone to join as Secretary (no meeting notes — AI has taken over), freeing up Bill Taylor to focus on the administrative needs of Jeepster, which are greater than you might realise for a racing yacht.
In the short term, we’d also really appreciate help with moving more of our processes online. This includes turning existing forms, such as skipper handover notes and berth forms, into digital versions. As well as making the committee’s job easier, this will help us manage planned maintenance, keep track of any improvements to Jeepster, and monitor membership more easily. In turn, that should help us put together a more appealing racing programme for members. Contact Stuart or Bill
Berth fee discounts
The Club will offer £50 discounts for new members sailing with us for a second time this season and for regular members who complete three events in the year. Details from Phil.
Racing opportunities
In June we still have crew vacancies for the Yarmouth JOG (6/7th), the RORC Morgan Cup race to Dartmouth (starts 1400hrs Friday 12th), and the JOG race to Alderney (starts 1900hrs Friday 26th). Contact Peter at crewbureau@csorc.org.uk.
Jeepster maintenance
Keeping Jeepster in good condition and “race-ready” means regular attention from Nick and his team and help is always welcome – it’s our boat, we need to look after it!
